At Echoes Ecology, we have a highly experienced team of qualified tree climbers, all certified in NPTC Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue, who carry out specialist aerial inspections of trees for roosting bats. Following a Ground Level Tree Assessment (GLTA), any trees identified as having Potential Roost Features (PRFs) are carefully inspected from above. Using ropes and harness, our climbers inspect elevated features that cannot be accessed from the ground.
All aerial surveys are conducted with a two-person climbing team. One climber performs the inspection while the second acts as a ground-based safety person, monitoring both the climber and the surrounding area to ensure the safety of colleagues, site personnel, and the public. This dual approach provides a robust safety framework and ensures compliance with best practice in arboricultural surveys.
At least one climber will be a NatureScot licensed bat worker, enabling immediate, on-site identification and recording of any bat roosts. This approach allows us to collect essential data that are required for a European Protected Species (EPS) Licence.
In addition to bats, our team can conduct aerial inspections for nesting birds and squirrels, allowing for integrated ecological assessments of trees that support multiple protected species.
Safety is paramount. All tree climbing gear is thoroughly inspected under LOLER regulations every six months to ensure it remains in excellent condition and compliant with current health and safety standards.
By combining specialist climbing expertise, licensed ecological knowledge, and rigorous safety procedures, Echoes Ecology provides a professional, efficient, and legally compliant approach to aerial tree surveys.
